2013 Porsche Boxster: you have to feel it to understand the independent spirit of this intelligent purebred convertible roadster.
Overview
2013 Porsche Boxster sports cars have a completely new redesign that revitalizes its spirit that you must feel it to understand. The redefined and sharper roadsters — like their famous predecessors which include the 550 Spyder — personify independence and legendary performance.
With its new 2.7-liter lightweight flat six engine, the 2013 Boxster revs out 265 hp at 6700 rpm, 10 more horses than the previous generation. Dashing from 0 to 60 takes a spine-tingling 5.4 seconds. The six-speed manual continues to serve as the standard transmission with the seven-speed PDK dual-clutch available as an option.
Powering the 2013 Boxster S is a 3.4-liter six-speed manual gearbox that generates a mighty 315 hp at 6,700 rpm with a max 266 lb-ft of torque. With the manual, the Boxster S torches the road from 0 to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds and maxes at 173 mph. Those opting for the PDK will see the Boxster blast off to 60 in 5 seconds flat and reach a top speed of 172 mph.
Those opting for Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) will not only see fuel consumption cuts, but also a car with lightning quick gear changes, smarter acceleration, eye-blinking fast response times and a noticeable difference in riding comfort. For maximum performance, the available Sports Chrono package enhances PDK through the “Launch Control” and “motorsport-derived gearshift strategy” functions for faster and tighter gear changes for a boost in performance and torque.
Along with shedding over 50 pounds, the wheelbase on the 2013 Boxster widens by 2.4 inches and its length increases by 1.3 inches. The shorter windshield moves closer to the face of the car supplying the roadster with a more intense look and personality. Porsche increased rigidity in its torsion by 40 percent and dropped the center of gravity by a quarter of an inch. The little details here create a wholly different driving experience.
One feature that's hallmark Porsche is its mid-engine, which has been around since the 1950s. The car manufacturer sticks with the mid-mounted engine in the Porsche Boxster because its mass is strongest in the center of the roadster, providing balance and heightening its cornering capabilities with the low center of gravity. It's because of this mid-engine that Porsche cars have celebrated many racing victories.
While you may not drive the Porsche Boxster on a racetrack daily, engineers have built the mid-engine to ensure performance carries over from racetrack to the road. A notable addition to the mid-engine is Intelligent Performance – Porsche’s commitment to delivering more power with less fuel consumption and emissions.
How does the new Porsche Boxster get its spirit? It could be the expression from the sharp lines and curves in all the right places. It could be power you hear and feel from its mid-engine. It could be the soft top that you can open and close while traveling up to 30 mph. It could the way it struts around town like a rebel without a cause. Whatever it is, you can't help but feel compelled to jump in and drive away with it.
"All-new for 2013, the Porsche Boxster is more capable on track and off, and more refined inside and out--in fact, it may just be the best of the compact luxury roadster crop," writes Nelson Ireson in the Car Connection review. It's OK to desire more. And you'll find it in the Boxster. Intelligent. Independent. Spirited. Feel it all by going for a ride in the 2013 Porsche Boxster waiting for you at Park Place Porsche Dallas.
Interior
2013 Porsche Boxster interior colors: Black, Platinum Grey, Luxor Beige, Yachting Blue, Agate Grey / Lime Gold, Agate Grey / Pebble Grey.
Cockpit: The geometric form of the cockpit has an elevated center console that orients the driver optimally into the vehicle by positioning the shift lever close to the steering wheel for fast and sporty gear changes.
Audio system: The standard CDR audio system combines with the optional Sound Package Plus to deliver impressive acoustic performance and has a touchscreen for easy operation. Available as an option, the Bose® Surround Sound System creates an authentic sound experience with eight amplifier channels, 10 loudspeakers, and a total output of 445 watts.
High-resolution screen: A new feature of the right-hand circular instrument is the high-resolution 4.6-inch TFT color screen. It provides you with a continuous stream of data from the onboard computer, reminds you of your selected communication and audio settings, enables you to customize vehicle settings, delivers various warnings including alerts from the optional Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), and, in conjunction with the optional PCM, displays the navigation system map.
Seating: The standard sport seats provide both comfort and support. The seat centers are finished in Alcantara®, a material known for its durability. The seats are equipped as standard with electric backrest adjustment and manual height and fore/aft adjustment. Seat heating is available as an option for all seats. Seats are heated in the seat cushion, backrest, and side bolsters.
Air conditioning: An air-conditioning system with integrated active carbon filter is fitted as standard. The filter traps particles, pollen, and odors. The ventilation pattern is wide and the air conditioning is quiet and effective.
Lighting: The standard "Welcome Home" lighting function automatically turns on the LED daytime running lights for a driver-defined period whenever the vehicle is opened or closed using the key remote.
Exterior
2013 Porsche Boxster exterior colors: Standard: Black, Guards Red, White, Racing Yellow. Special colors: GT Silver Metallic, Cognac Metallic, Lime Gold Metallic.
Wheels: The 18-inch standard wheels on the new Porsche Boxster models are one-inch larger compared to previous models. They're made from a lightweight alloy for improved driving performance.
Lights: LED daytime running lights and position lights sit above the outer air intakes. LEDs provide powerful illumination, respond fast to driver input and offer a longer service life. The standard automatic headlight activation system automatically switches between daytime running lights and low beam, based on ambient lighting conditions.
Safety
Braking system: Braking performance is as essential as driving performance. The 2013 Porsche Boxster comes equipped with four-piston aluminum monobloc fixed calipers at the front and rear. This means that the brakes are resistant to deformation and they're lightweight for a fast and sensitive braking response.
Porsche Stability Management (PSM): This standard system automatically maintains stability. Sensors continuously monitor the speed, yaw velocity and lateral acceleration of the car. This information helps the PSM calculate the direction of travel at any moment. If the car begins to oversteer or understeer, PSM applies selective braking on individual wheels to restore stability. It improves traction on wet or low-grip road surfaces. PSM also improves agility and safety using the automatic brake differential (ABD) and antislip regulation (ASR). The Integrated ABS minimizes braking distances.
Airbags: The Porsche Boxer includes full-size airbags that inflate in two stages depending on the severity and type of accident. In less serious accidents, the airbags are partially inflated to limit discomfort to the occupants. It also includes Porsche Side Impact Protection System (POSIP) as standard. This puts two side airbags on both sides for side impact protection.
Rollover protection: Dual rollover protection creates survival space in the event of a rollover or side impact. The front rollover protection element contains super and ultra high-strength steels. The supplemental safety roll bars located behind the seats are a composite construction of aluminum and steel.
